Biking

Biking to Valley Forge, Saturday, November 12 (Rain Date, November 13)- 10:00 AM

Dust off your bikes, we’re not done 2-wheeling yet.  The weather might be agreeable in mid-November, the leaves may still be turning, and you need to get your legs in shape for ski season.  So, let’s go biking.  We’ll meet at Lloyd Hall around 10 AM, that’s the first building on Kelly Drive along Boathouse Row.  We’ll head back to the Art Museum and head out MLK Drive which is usually closed to traffic on weekends.  We cross the Falls Bridge and head to Main St., in Manayunk where we jump onto the canal path.   Then its back onto the Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) and out to Spring Mill.  At that point, we’ve done roughly 10-12 miles.  Anyone who wants to turn back can do so.  The rest of us will head to Valley Forge, eat the lunch (that you all should have packed) and, if the legs are still good, head into the National Park and challenge the hills and maybe walk through the Visitor Center and browse the literature about what happened there about 246 years ago. On the way back, we can stop in the Manayunk Brewery on Main Street to “hydrate” a little.
This is a leisurely ride.  We’ll average about 12-14 mph.  The SRT is asphalt but the canal path through Manayunk is mostly cinders with a few wood bridges.  If we start by 10, we should be done before sunset.  As I said, pack a lunch and water or Gatorade or whatever quenches your thirst, and bring an extra layer of clothing.  In interested, please text me at 856-761-2863 or email me at johnkennedy0880@comcast.net.
