Let's Go For a Hike

By Steve Umansky
Come join us out in the fresh air on Saturday, May 14th for a hike in Brendan Byrne State Forest off of Route 72 in New Lisbon, NJ. We will meet by the park office between 10:30 and 11:00 for an 11:00 AM start. We will hike about 3 miles on the Cranberry Trail to Pakim Pond, then have lunch at the picnic area there before returning by way of the Batona Trail for a total distance of about 6 miles. The restrooms at Pakim Pond should be open. Bring lunch and water for the hike. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the park (sorry). This is flat terrain, if you can walk you can hike. The total outing should last 3 to 3.5 hours and those who wish to can then go for liquid refreshments.
Hiking is more enjoyable than walking on a treadmill indoors.
Directions from Route 295 exit 34 in Cherry Hill:
  • Go east on Route 70 to the second traffic circle (the 70/72 circle)
  • Take the first exit from the circle onto Route 72 east towards Long Beach Island.
  • Go 1 mile to mile marker 1 and make a left into the State Forest.
  • Go about 0.3 mile and make a right onto the road there.
  • Go a short distance and the parking lot for the park office will be on your left.
